When Am I Reading?

My B.A. is in history.  I love history.  I love reading.  What better way to combine two of my favorite things then to challenge myself to read through time!  One of my favorite genres is historical fiction.  I’ve never kept track of “when” I read so I thought this year, I would keep track.  By consciously keeping track of the time periods that books are set in, I’m hoping that I will find myself picking up more classics and more varied historical fiction.

I’m going to start out by dividing my book settings into centuries.  If I notice that I am reading multiple books from the same century, I’ll go ahead and break that up by either historical events or time periods.

Twentieth Century
The Prodigal Son (1960’s)
The Ashford Affair (1920’s)

Nineteenth Century
The Second Empress  (second half of Napoleon’s reign)
The Secret History of the Pink Carnation (1803)
The Count of Monte Cristo

Eighteenth Century

Seventeenth Century

The Three Musketeers

Sixteenth Century

Fifteenth Century

Fourteenth Century & Earlier

Pillars of the Earth

What can I say!? I decided to take a gander around,… and I saw that your into Lauren Willig, too! I will have to come back and see your thoughts on Pink I!! I’ll hold off on Ashford until I can read it too! I’ve only had it checked out at LEAST 5x!! Life keeps distracting me!!! Sighs. I want to read it alongside: A Spear of Summer Grass (writ by her friend!) and The Fever Tree! There is a WHOLE story about the interconnections of Spear + Ashford, as to how they each came to their creative muse to be set in the same locale + time!!

PS: It’s “The Secret HISTORY of the Pink Carnation!”
